DEATH SENTENCE UNALTERED. EXECUTIVE COUNCIL'S DECISION, (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 23. Tho case of the Maori, Hakuraia To Kalin, who was convicted in the Supreme Court at Hamilton of tho murder of Patrick Elliott at Ongaroto on March 27 and sentenced to death by Mr Justice Stringer, was considered today at a special meeting of the Executive Council presided over by his Excellency tho Governor-General. Tho decision come to was that the Executive Council, after very fully considering the case, could not see any grounds for interfering in the proper carrying out of tin; sentence. The Minister of Justice (Hon E. P. Lee) in making the announcement, stated that the condemned man bad made a statement before tho Stipendiary Magistrate in the Auckland prison to the effect that he had shot Elliott and afterwards robbed him but that the shooting was accidental.
