CLUB AND BARRACKS GOSSIP. (By “THE ORDERLY.’’) Tho cadet football team which went to Akaroa on Saturday had a very enjoyable trip, and played their ' best match of the season against the Akaroa team. The latter won by 6 to 3 but the issue was doubtful right throughout. On their play the Akaroa team deserved their win. A dance xvas organised and held in the boating club’s rooms on the Saturday evening, and on the Sunday a pleasant launch excursion xvas arranged. The team arri\red back at 6 p.m. on Sunday night at King Edward Barracks. Thanks are due to Miss V. C. Harney, of the Akaroa High School and Mr Bruce, of Akaroa for tlie arrangements made, and to various other residents who assisted in entertaining the team. Captain K. M’Kenzie Muirson, M.C., late of the 17th Lancers, has reported for duty xvith the sth Batt. C.R. Pending the gazetting of his appointment, he is taking over command of A Coy, The band of the sth Batt. C.R. is to receive a number of new instruments which have been urgently required. They will enable all present player^and future recruits to be supplied with the necessary instruments. Instructions received from headquarters state that all officers on the active or reserve lists will be required to fill in new forms (Army Form N.Z. (0) T) which will be practically a military history of the officer. These forms will be attachect to the personal files of thost concerned, and will bring records of these officers into line with those of th© permanent staff and also methods of records in the home army. This work will be commenced as soon as the necessary forms arrive. Results of the tenth voluntary course for secondary school cadets who attended G.H.Q., Trentham from August 29 to September 7, have now been received. The report will be forwarded to headquarters of units concerned in duo course. Some years ago Major Northcote presented a cup to the Akaroa cadets for the best all-round cadet, xvhicli included attendance, shooting, conduct and efficiency. Much competitive enthusiasm has been shown for this cup during the past year. Cadet Welsh was the winner xvith 378 marks out of a possible 400. The next four cadets, Lance Corporal Rennie, Lance Corporal Paris, Cadets Philip and Brown, were all within 40 marks of Welsh’s total. cup xvas presented at Akaroa on September 1 by Lieutenant Leech, Area Officer, who complimented the cadets on ther keenness and high standard of efficiency. During the present month. Godley Cups were presented by Lieutenant Leech, Area Officer, as under:—September 12, at Amberley, to Cadet Hadler; September 12 at Rangiora, to Cadet Smith ; September 13, at Oxford, to Cadet Deere; September 20 at Springston, to Cadet Brav, September 22, at Ha-warden, to Cadet Lance. It is proposed to hold an annual rifle meeting at Trentham for New Zealand Naval and Military forces. Competitors at this meeting will he selected from those who have been most successful in the Area, and Command meetings. An association ia being formed t-o conduct the above meeting. Tho objects are to promote interest in rifle shooting for service purposes, by means of individual and collective competitions, framed as far as possible to induce practice in methods which xvili lead to increased efficiency in practical xvarfare. \
