Sir Gerald Strickland, former Gov* ernor of New South Wales, is reentering politics as leader of the Constitutional Party for the New Aluita Parliament. He is a native of Malta where according to the correspondent of tho "Daily Telegraph” he is well hated h.y the people who do not forgive him for his order to the police to" use their batons on the crowd twenty years ago when he was Chief Secretary. Nevertheless he is collecting a strong following. Many who dislike him personally are prepared to support him as being the ablest and most experienced candidate. Sir Gerald Strickland was Governor of Leeward Isles, 1902-04, of Tasmania, 1904-9, of Western Australia, 1909-13! Norfolk Island, 1913-14, New South Wales 1912-17. He established tho Central Factories for sugar and cotton in Antigua.
