BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

DISCUSSED BY PRESBYTERY The question of the Bible ill schools was brought before the Christchurch Presbytery to-day by tho Rev ,T. Paterson, chairman of the Bible in Schools Committee of the General Assembly, who said that a pronouncement should be made, to be submitted to the General Assembly. The committee wished to obtain the views of tho Presbyteries. The Rev J. Dickson moved:—-‘‘That this Presbytery would be glad to see the Bible read in the public schools of the Dominion as part of the school syllabus, with' a conscience clause for both teachers and parents, and would commend this step at. the present juncture to the Bible in Schools Committee, of the General Assembly. The Rev J. Johnston seconded the motion. The Rev R. M. Rvburn said that tho policy must come from the head of the church. A definite scheme should be placed before the Presbyteries. It was useless to ask the Presbyteries to put forth separate suggestions. It was a live question, and the church must mov© together.
