Steere, chairman of the By-laws Committee of the Riccarton Borough Council, stated at last night's meeting of the council that th? committee had decided to strictly enforce the council’s by-law on the subject of motor-cars passing standing tramcars, which is as follows : * • Whilst any tramcar or tramway trailer shall be taking up or putting down passengers, or shall be stopped or about to be stopped for such purpose, no person shall at any time, at any other than a walking pace, dm-e or propel any vehicle or ride any horse between such tramcar or tramway trailer and the kerbing of the footpath on the side of Avbich such tramcar or tramway trailer shall be taking up or putting down passengers, unless there shall be at least 23ft of clear road space between such vehicle or horse and such tramcar or tramway trailer “ This by-law will be strictly enforced in the Riccarton Borough from this date,’*' added Councillor Steere.
