NORTH BEACH NOTES.

The Gala Executive have shown commendable enterprise in purchasing several attractive sxde-shows at Air Pearson’s sale for the local gala. It is a step in the right direction and will enable tlie Gala Committee to run their own attractions. At the last meeting a letter was received from the North Beach Burgesses Association congratulating the Gala Executive on past efforts and pledging themselves to assist to their utmost in the future.

North Beach has been prominent in operatic circles lately. Mrs Hume, of Marriott’s Road, has been in Dunedin assisting the Dunedin Operatic Society. Mr J. A. Rosewarne, of Osborno Terrace, is in Blenheim assisting the operatic society there to produce 44 The Cloches de Corneville.” Mr and Mrs J. W Bailey, who have been absent for two years, are expected to return to North Beach early in September. During their absence they have achieved success with marked distinction. The matter of access to the sea is occupying the minds of Jubilee Avenue residents. It is urged that the council should buy a section in Jubilee Avenue to give access to the Domain. Tf a metalled track was formed through the Domain to connect Jubilee Avenue with Berry Street, it would give n great many people a short route to the sea and would enable visitors to make the round trip from town, via Jubilee Avenue.
