THE MINERS’ DISPUTE.
REPLY THE OWNERS. (P Eft Paes* Association.) DUNEDIN. August 5. Mr Bishop, acting secretary of the Mine Owners’ Association, replying to Mr Arbnckle, states that tho period of the so-called national agreement, February, 1920-1921, was the most troublesome in the history of coal mining, producing more petty stoppages and loss in output than had ever been experienced. The owners object in seeking individual agreements is to secure such as will be understood by all parties. Thkre was absolutely no desire to interfere with the miners’ organisations, and the owners’ projx>sals did not suggest a reversion to former conditions. He felt assnred that when the proposals were better understood a settlement would ho assured.
