ARANUI BURGESSES’ ASSOCIATION.

A meeting- of the Aranui Burgesses' Association was held at tlie Breeze's Road School last evening, Mr C. Aston presiding A deputation from the Avonside-Bexley Burgesses' Association placed before the meeting the aims and objects of their as sociation, with a view to discussing whether the two associations could amalgamate. After discussion it was decided to take no action in the direction mentioned, the principal reason being that, whereas the Avonside Association consisted of representatives of the whoie of the Avonsidc Riding of the, Heathcote County, the Aranui Association took as its area the school district of Aranui, comprising part of Avonside and part of Bromley Riding. The meeting expressed itself sympathetic with the efforts of the Avonside Association, and it was felt th*t the two bodies could do much good by backing each other up on lines of common policy. A letter was received from the Postmaster-General stating that lie was unable to grant the request to have a slot telephone installed at Breeze’s Road corner. It was pointed out that between 400 and 500 people are dependent on a telephone bureau that closes »t 5 p.m. It was decided to take further action in conjunction with the member for the district, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. Complaints were received of the frequent use of the footpath of Page’s Road by cyclists, and it was decided to once more approach the Superintendent of Police ir regard to this matter.
