MURDER IN IRELAND.
THE LINDSAY TRAGEDY. “A GANG OF ASSASSINS’’ j By Telegraph— Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 4, 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, August 3. The “ Morning Post, 5 ’ featuring tlie case of Mrs Lindsay, states that her relatives received a letter from the Sinn Fein Minister for Defence, Mr Burgess, announcing her execution, because she was a spy. Mrs Lindsay was a widow, aged seventy, and was held a prisoner for months before she » was killed. She was forced to write a letter to General Macready, asking for j a reprieve for several Sinn Feiners, saying that if they were executed her life would be forfeited. It is believed she was executed as soon as tlie Sinn Feiners were. The <f Morning Post” says it is an analogous case to Nurse Ca veil’s, though it points out the latter was tried according to the rules of a court of justice, and bitterly comments on the changed attitude of the British Government in negotiating with de Valera, who is the head of the gang of assassins which perpetrated these unspeakable barbarities. A message on February 18 last stated that Mrs Lindsay, a widow, and landowner at Ooachford, and her chauffeur, were kidnapped by an armed party.
