THE COUNCIL VACANCY.

TO THE EDITOR Sir.—So Mr C. P. Agar, after swearing that he would never consent, has consented I After resigning his seat, and telling a deputation that he would not go back as an ordinary member of the council, he is willing to go back as an ordinary member. Consistencv. of course, is the virtue of focls, but one likes to see a little of it now and then. I submit that Mr Agar has absolutelv no claim to the seat which be vacated voluntarily, and that he would be more esteemed bv the nublic if ho stuck to his original resolution. He resigned to save his dignitv. and lie will not enhance it by going back to a place which he left rather precipitately.—l am, etc.. ELECTOR. Christchurch, Julv 6
