A mail was carried from San Francisco to New York by aeroplane last February in thirty-three hours twenty minutes—-the fastest trans-continental mail to date. The distance is 2700 miles and is four and a-half days’ journey by train.

A meeting of the Christchurch Accountant Students’ Society was held on Monday evening, the president, Mr J. S. Day, occupying the chair. The occasion was the delivery of a lecture by Mr A. T. Donnelly, Crown Prosecutor, on “ An Outline of Commercial Law.” Mr Donnelly traced the history of the commercial law from the earliest times up till the present day and recounted some humorous anecdotes of the judgments of the primitive judicial tribunals set up to hear commercial disputes. The lecturer was followed with the keenest interest by all those present and a large number of questions were asked at the conclusion of the address. Mr Donnelly was accorded a vote of thanks. There was a record attendance at the lecture. Several pew members were admitted, bringing the total membership up to over 200.
