The deaths of Mrs Alfred Sands ton, a member of tho Board of Control of tho M’Lean Institute, and of Mr B. M. Molyneaux, one or the trustees cf the M nean Trust, were referred to by the Mayor (Dr Thacker, M.P > at yesterday’s meeting of the board M'otims of high appreciation of their services and of condolence witn the relatives were passed. Mr Alexander Sangster, who died recently in Wellington, at the age of seventy-one, was one or the earl, 7 residents of Southland. Born in Peerhead, near Aberdeen, Scotland, became out to New Zealand by the ship Wild Deer in 1873. and joined his brother in business in Invercargill. He was a skilful musician, and was conductor of the Aberdeenshire Volunteer Band at th© age of nineteen. ' On coming to New Zeeland he became conductor of the Invercargill Volunteer Band (afterwards the Invercargill Garrison Band), previous to that position being taken over by the late Captain Hey wood. Mr Sangster leaves a widow, three daughters (Mesdames A. J. Wycherley, J. Neale and Miss Sangster, of Wellington) and two sons (Messrs Alex and John Sangster, of Motukarara)* to mourn their loss.
