BOXING.

THE WILLIAMS—GLEESON BOUT. The Christchurch Sports Club will open its season on Monday evening at the Theatre Royal, when an attractive programme will be presented and together with tho prospects of seeing two clever exponents in the ring there should be a capacity house. The principal draw will be the bout between the two clever Australian boxers, P. Gleeson .and R. Williams, which will bo preceded by six preliminary bouts between local lads. The visitors have come to the Dominion on tho recommendation of the world-wide boxing critic, W. F. Corbett. Each has won the Australian light-weight championship. The success attained by Gleeson on Monday last at Wellineton hau increased the interest for the local match on Monday. Included in the successes met with by P. Gleeson were victories over F. Brock, Wave Geikie, j. Humphries, Ben Tracey. Ray Wilson, A 1 White and J. Johnson, all well-known Victorian, New South Wales and Queensland boxers, and a draw, at the end of twenty rounds, with Green. R. Williams defeated Volaire on three occasions, and local patrons know what a clever boxer Volaire was when he defeated the New Zealand champion, Frank O’Neill, here last year. WilPams fought and beat Chamberlain and Arthurs in England, and Hayes, of San Francisoo, and met the two Australian champions, Sid Godfrey and Brogan, so that on performances he is one of tho best exponents of boxing that has yet appeared in Christchurch. A fine contest is assured patrons.
