, CHRISTCHURCH. TO-DAY'S CASES. (Before Mr AVyvern AVilson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. James Reid, aged seventy-five years, was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. Reid had been convicted of a similar offence the previous day. Andrew Gilmour, aged sixty-three, was charged with drunkenness and easting offensive matter on a footpath. He was fined 20s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. A first offender was fined the amount of his bail (10s) for drunkennessEPIDEMIC OF SEXUAL CASES. George Harold Beaumont was charged with having had carnal knowledge of a- girl under sixteen years of “ We seem to have an epidemic of these cases just now. Two similar cases are to he heard next week,” said the Magistrate. Beaumont was remanded until Wednesday next. MAI NTENANCE, Elizabeth Reilly was charged with having failed to pay maintenance for two children in the Christchurch Receiving Home. It was stated that there had beerf two children under the care of the State, and one of them had died. Defendant was in arrears with maintenance of both of them. Mr Amqdeo said that the woman a position at 25s a week, with hei keep. She had not been in a position to pay off the arrears. The Magistrate asked how it was that the woman had not been able to do better. “ Oli, it’s drink,” said Inspector Hendrey. “ Ten shillings a week is little enough for you to pav to the State for the upkeep of your children. in all conscience,” said the Magistrate. ” You should be able to do that with 25s a week and your keep. You will bo sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as you make the payments.

JUVENILE COURT. YOUNG GIRL IN TROUBLEA girl aged fourteen years and a few months was charged with not being under proper control. The girl’s mother, an old woman, said that she was so circumstanced that she was unable to exercise proper control over the girl. A police. constable stated that last night he visited a batch at 75, Ferry Road. He found the girl there witli George Harold Beaumont. The batch was occupied by two young men. Inspector Hendrey said he considered it would be best if the girl were sent to ,a home where strict control would be exercised over her.

The Magistrate adopted tho recommendation.

CIVIL BUSINESS. MILKMEN AT LAW. N. A. Frazer, Papanui, dairyman (Mr AV. F. Tracy) proceeded against A. S. Boaz, dairy farmer (Mr H. S. J. Goodman), claiming £lOl 7s damages. Plaintiff alleged that on or about February 1 he entered into an agreement with defendant for the purchase of a milk round for £l2O. Under the agreement defendant agreed to supply plaintiff with thirty-live gallons of milk per day for six months at Is a gallon. Defendant had supplied milk for one month only, and then refused to continue a full supply. Plaintiff was not able to obtain milk at under Is 4d a gallon and had to pay this amount to replace the milk defendant had not supplied. The defendant had represented the round as a thirty-five-gallon one, which statement plaintiff contended was untrue. The defendant counter-claimed for £3O, balance of money due on the purchase of the milk round, and £37 11s for 751 gallons of milk supplied at Is a gallon. The counter-claim was admitted.

Judgment was given for plaintiff on the claim for £9 17e Id.
