SHORTER HOURS.

REDUCTION BY KAIAPOI WOOLLEN COMPANY. DUE TO OVER-IMPORTA-TION. As a result of the surplus of imported clothing on the market at the present time and the decreased orders being received by local manufacturing houses, the directors of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company have been compelled tx> reduce the working hours of the company’s employees. Mr J. A. Frostick, chairman of the directors, stated this morning, that this action was entirely due to the dumping of imported goods which had taken place. Tim company hoped only to reduce the hours to the least possible extent in order to avoid imposing hardship on the employees. The same condition of affairs prevailed in other parts of the Dominion, particularly Auckland, which was feeling the position very acutely. “ It is one of the penalties the country has to pay for over-importing,” added Mr Frostick, 11 anu is also due to the public not purchasing locally manufactured goods as they should.**
