Man del arrived in Christchurch this morning from Wellington, and is at the United Service. Miss D. Dennis (Dunedin) arrived in < hristchureh yesterday and is staying at the United Service. Mr and Mrs H. H. Smith left for their homo in Grcvmouth this morning after a stay in Christchurch. Mrs Edgar Stead and Miss Phillips left last evening on their way to Auckland and Honolulu. Mrs George. Hill (Auckland) is visiting her mother, Mrs Harvey Hajrrkins, Durham Street. Miss Isohel Mills, tl Ssiootstan, ’ * Ft Andrews, has returned to her home after a holiday spent with relatives in Melbourne. The members of the Christchurch Golf Club who went to Timaru have returned t,> Christchurch. Their short hi ay in Timaru was most enjoyable, largely owing to the hospitality of the Timaru Golf Club. Mrs Temple's concert party ably entertained the patients ot the Military Sanatorium on Saturday evening The programme was excellent, and was thoroughly enjoyed b'.y the inmates Tho secretary thanked the party on behalf of the patients and staff. The engagement is announced of Miss Dona Haszard; elder daughter of Mr H. D M. Haszard, Christchurch, to Mr Donald M’Kenzie, also of Christchurch, but recently of Wellington. The engagement is also announced of Air Vaughan Haszard, to Mies Ellen Sycamore, older daughter of the late Mr t’. Sycamore. On Saturday evening a most enjoy, able jazz party was held at the Carlton Cafe. Tho latest, jazz music was supplied by Afessrs P. Austin and R. Clarke, and extras were played by Afiss AlacDonald and Air U. Robinson. The chaperones were ATesdnmes Andrews and Crooke. Amongst those present were: - -All's 13. West, Airs Cook son, Misses fc Flan ni gun. Wrathell, Hobbs. Powell, Duncan, Madden (2), Bundle, Bingham, Hannigaa. and Afessrs Sprosten, Robin•in (2), Dalwood, AlVKenzie, Russell, Wilson, West, Aide, Sisson, Af’Alooii and Jacques Notariello, who gave a. concert last evening the Choral Hall, had two women artists on his programme who contributed a good deal towards the enjoyment of tho audience. They were AXiss Rav lox. an Australian violinist, and Aliss Elsie Kell, a Wellington singer. The former wore a draped lace frock over which was worn a loose coatee of stamped velvet in a rust shade, and Aliss Kell wore a becoming Stage frock of vieux rose velvet made very simply, and finished ofF with a wide sash of taffeta In a contrasting shade, looped into panniers on one side. Yesterday Airs W. E. Whitcombe, Alurray Place, was hostess at an enjoyable bridge party. The drawingroom was beautifully decorated with cream and yellow roses and' chrysanthemums. Airs Whitcomb© was assisted by her daughter, Airs O. Barton, and Aliss Edna Whitcomb© in looking alter .tho guests, amongst whom were Airs Andrews. Airs Sandall, Mrs J. R. The drawing-room was very prettily decorated with roses aud chrysanthemums. Airs Hall received her guests wearing a. handsome gown of rose coloured satin draped with uinon, the corsage being heavily beaded. Aliss Judith Jenkins (Sydney), who is staying with Mrs Hall, wore a smart black eh iff on taffeta frock relieved with royal blue satin. The annual Scargill and Motunau returned soldiers’ hall was held in the Alexandra, Hall, Sjcargill, on Friday, and was a great success. An energetic committee, with Air G. A. Grom as chairman and Air G. W. Brown as honorary secretary, had tastefully decorated the* hall with native shrubs and overhanging streamers of green and gold. Alesdames Parnham, Grcig and Cameron acted as chaperones, while the! Ai.C.’s duties were efficiently carried out by Messrs G. A. Grcig and G. AV. Brown. ALurgatroyd's Band provided music and extras were played by Air and Aliss Greig. Amongst those present were Alcsdames J. AY.
