At the monthly meeting: of the Bakers’ Union held on Saturday night, the following resolution was
carried :—“ That this meeting of the Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Union strongly protests against the statements made by Mr David Bates at th * recent meeting of the Farmers’ Union, ‘That preference of unionists has a demoralising effect upon the honesty and integrity of the workers ’ The union further instructs the secretary to invite Mr David Bates to attend its next meeting, and address the union on the difference between the principles of preference to unionists and compulsory membership of the Law Society.”
