AMERICAN LABOUR.
THE DENVER CONVENTION. THE IRISH QUESTION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association NEW YORK, June 12. In a- statement prior to the opening of the American Federation of Laboui Convention at Denver, Colorado, today, Mr Gompers said, “ The conven-
tion will deal with great post-war issues threatening organised Labour. The future is in the balance. The die must be cast one way or another. The major problem is unemployment. It is estimated that five millions are out of work. Other subjects for discussion will be the movement to crush Labour and blast its spirit, by the open shop, disarmament, and the Irish question.” Irish sympathisers are in two factions. They demand American recognition of the Irish Republic, withdrawal of British troops, and immediate payment of the British debt of nine billion dollars to the United States.
