NEW BRIGHTON CADETS.

• SMOKE CONCERT AND REUNION, j The seventh annual smoke concert j aid reunion of the New Brighton ! Senior Cadets (No. 76), was held in the Pier Hall ou Saturday evening. Lieu- 1 tenant A. P. Hopkins, officer command- j nig tho company, pi ©sided, and there was a muster of upwards ot one hundred of the corps. Amongst the visitors present wore Colonel Young (Commanding Southern Command), Colonel C. J. Cooper, Lieutenant Leach (stall), Lieutenant R. Tabley, the Mayor (Mr J. Gamble), Councillor NY. Bellamy (Deputy-Mayor). Mr W. Cooke (deputycaptain New Brighton Ride Club), Mr AN’. Drake (president New Brighton ! Bowling Club), Mr A. W. Owles (patron New Brighton Boating Club), Mr Arthur P. Hopkins (Belfast), Mr Arthur Owen, Mr J. Dunbar and others. A lengthy toast list was gone through, including “ The King," 4 * Our Old •Boys," “ The Staff,” “Sports Clubs/' “ Prize Donors,” “ Local Bodies," 'l’ll© Ladies,” and “ Tho Press/’ The annua report for tho year ending May 31, compiled by the Defence Department, was as follows : —* {Strength, 101 ; number fired annual course of musketry, 95; marksmen, 29; qualified, 41; not .qualified, J2; narty exercised, 13. Of the six who did not fire fir© are on transfer and one a recruit. The at tendance was 72 per cent.; musketry average, 68.2 per cent ; while 75 Cadets have been classified as efficient. Twentytwo are to bo posted from this month to Territorial units." At the request of Lieutenant Hopkins Colonel Young presented the prizes, as follows : For shooting and generul efficiency.— No- I Section-—Cadet NV. Gray. No. 3 Section —Cadet W. Murphy. No. 3 Section—Cadet TV. Johnson. No. 4 Section—Cadet Graydon Athletic events. —880yds Handicap— Lance-Corporal B. Johnson. s(>yds Backwards Race—Sergeant T. Hanham. Long Jump—Sergeant Noonan. Shooting and general efficiency, special—Sergeant H. Bellamy. For excellence of service covering two roars a gold medial, given by Mr H- F\ Martin, was presented to Colour-Ser-_ gee nt If . Beaumont. During the evening a capita! musical programme was contributed by the Male Amateur Orchestra (II). and Messrs W. Drake, O. Owen, G. M’Cree, lYunbar and others. The singing of “An Id Lang Syne ” and the National Antfc«m concluded an exceptionally en-myj-bie evening.
