NATIVES ATTACK EUROPEANS.
CRAVE SITUATION IN ALEXANDRIA. TROOPS TAKE CHARGE. (Received May 2i, 10.40 a.m.) CAIRO, May 23. There is a "rave situation in Alexandria. A rumour that a Greek had killed a native led to natives attacking Europeans. Ambulances were busy all night long. Mobs smashed shop windows. All business places are closed. Europeans assembled at the Governor's residence and demanded protection or permission to protect themselves. Firing is now proceeding all round the town- Students and. natives are attacking Europeans in many places. The Lebail district was destroyed by • fire. ft is reported that several S people were burned alive. British troops have arrived auji have j taken charge of the town.
