CANTERBURY ROWING CLUB.

ANNUAL. BALL. Unfortunately, the weather was uupropit«otiß last evening on the occasion of the annual hall of the Canterbury Rowing Club, but those who braved tho elements were amply rewarded, as the ball was in every' nay a most enjoyable one. The decorations were novel, ami singularly appropriate- Overhead was suspended a double-sculler, which has won several races for the club, and at intervals round the walls were grouped crossed sculls surmounted by a rudder, and a club cap. Draperies of scarlet and white —the colours ol' the club—were looped overhead and also draped the walls effectively, baskets of greenery adding a finishing touch. The permanent gallery, used for the purposes of a lounge and a supper room, was decorated. with chrysanthemums in various shades. The music, which was exceptionally good, was supplied by Miss Macdonald’s orchestra. The members of the committee, who so successfully organised 1 he ball, wore - .Messrs r. -T. Stewart, 11. 13. Knight, C. 11. Clemens, S. !*• Godfrey, R. A. Triggs, H. Lawry, W- JVI. Stewart and R. R. O. Spooner (the honorary secretary). The chaperones •were Airs J. I». Evans, who wore black uinon over satin, the corsage being relieved with green and jado embroidery : Airs IT. Ayres, black crepe do chine, worked with white beads iri a scroll design, and Airs N. L. Maobeth, a handsome gown of black jet over rbormeuse. Others present included Miss Edna Fleming, pretty lemon coloured georgette frock, with a satin ceinture enV* broidered in jade beads; Miss Mon.i Bethune, smart lemon coloured taffeta frock, prettily made with tiny frills, edged with jade and gold; Aliss Gladys Falek, buttercup satin frock, with a three-tiered overdress of yellow net, the tiers being edged with opalescent passementerie ; Aliss Constance Bethune. dainty powder-blue georgette frock; Aliss Mabel Crawshaw, deep cream satin frock, veiled wih frilled net and relieved with a pink rose at the corsage; Miss JVI. Marshall, black satin skirt and a corsiet bodice of gold stencilled satin; Aliss Enid Mints, black net frock, xnormtei on silk and relieved with gold; Alisa Fsrae Lamb, dainty white georgette frock over satin, the ceinture being of silver tissue; Miss Dimoncl, ciel blue georgette, embroidered in tiny white, blue and gold crystal beads ; Alias Nancy Beaveu. deep rnauve •'■eorgotte frock, wnbroidered in black and rio-
