ANNUAL MEETING. f Prr. Press Association.! WELLINGTON, May 11. . The annual meeting of the Secondary icboola Asuiatants’ Association of New Zeaar.<3 commenced to-day, Mr R. M. Laing, Christchurch, president, being in tho chair. There is an attendance of about fifty delegates from various part of the Dominion. The president referred to the fact that aince the last meeting a great deal of work had been accomplished. The classification scheme had become a fact. The Government and the' Department had met them in n. very fair epiril and what had been obtained uan ail that wan probably expected. He was of opinion that a time of intense depression vaa to be expected, and in view of this no other requests should be made at present for any large modification of the scheme. The Government should not be asked to increase materially it* financial difficulties. Mr F. Martyn Renner, in an interesting survey, drew attention to some of the defects in the presents eyatens and suggested methods of recon stencftion in the primary departments. Schools were too few. An outstandiag defect of the secondary schools was lack of co-ordination between the primary and secondary system. Methods of teaching were different regarding examinations. He urged that sensible use should be made of the accrediting system. Technical education should not be commenced until a child had a sound general education. After a primary courso ending at twelve years there should be a post-primary bourse uniform throughout N« \v Zealand.
