Air Lin Phih Yuan, Chinese Consul, has received the following cable from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Pekin on the subject of the message from Pekin dated April 9, stating that Dr Sun. Yat Pen had been elected President of China “ A Fhort time ago the province of Hwang Tung, to the surprise of everyone, was said to have elected Dr Pun Yat Son as President. On investigation it was found that his election was due to a minority of the so-called Nationalist, or Sim Yat Sen. Party surreptitiously using tho remaining members of the former Parliament. now extinct who without any authority of law or custom proceeded to cast their votes for him in a most irregular manner. Even among the members of the party there waa dissent and wide divergence of opinion. Various bodies and societies and people generally in China and the diplomatic corps all look Upon the election aa child’s play. They pay __ absolutely no attention to it. Wo specially cable this for vour information in case the position is misunderstood.”
