There wore no disturbances anywhere. Italian Communists issued a mournful manifesto, declaring: “Itis a period of bourgeoisie reaction, and our day of expiation. We can only blame ourselves.’'

Speeches wera delivered by Mr O’Brien (president of the Engine Drivers’ Association), Mr O’Rourke (31 mere’ Federation), 3.1 r Davidson (president, of the Millerton Miners’ Union), and Mr Fournier (Communist Party). Resolutions xvero passed protesting against, the censorship nnd the imprisonment of Johnson, speakers alleging that the suppression vrae aimed at working class literature.
