THE WATERSIDE DISPUTE.
DISCUSSION BY HARBOUR BOARD. THANKS TO LYTTELTON MEN. T don't think that ‘the meeting should end without some reference to the watersiders’ dispute,” said Mr R. Macartney, at to-day’s meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board. “ The manner in which the Lyttelton men are sticking to their work and the way in which the work is being done is a cause for appreciation, and the board should show its appreciation. I move that a letter of thanks be sent to the men.” Dr Thacker seconded the -motion, and said that he did not know why the Lyttelton men were sticking at the work and doing it so well, but they were. If ever it became necessary for the board to have its own permanent staff of waterside workers those men doing so well to-day should have tho preference. The motion was agreed to without further discussion.
