ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
[Per Press Association.] HASTINGS, January 20. At the adjourned inquest to-dav touching the death of Mrs Elizabeth llesketh, who was drowned on January •3, as the result of a motor-bus going over a bridge into the Karamn Creek, the Coroner, reviewing the testimony, said that the evidence was in the direction of showing that all due ear© was taken. Edna Hart, aged fourteen, had behaved very creditably in rescuing a baby and returning into the water and rescuing two other children. She was a brave girl and Vvas to be commended for her action. A native, P. H. Tomoana, who undressed and entered the river to assist, was also to be commended. A verdict was returned that death was due to drowning, caused by a ’bus accidentally falling into the river owing to the blocking of the steering-gear.
A man named Maurice Begley was struck by a train while crossing t-lie line on a bicycle. He is now ir> a private hospital in a critical condition, buffering from injuries to the head.
