STEWARDS’ STRIKE.

As a. result of secret negotiations between the Federal Government and a delegation of the union there is every reason to believe that the delegation will suggest the advisability of the stewards returning to work, and will outline the terms proposed for resumption.
MANUKA SAILS SIX STEWARDS SHORT. [Per Press Asse-r-ATicx.l AV£LUNG-TON, January 20. The Manuka 1 , which sailed at. 11.40 p.m. for Sydney, bad a shortage of half-a-dozen stewards when she arrived at. Lyttelton, but four who signed oft the Palteha joined her. After giving, twenty-four hours’ notice at Lyttelton, the stewards came on to "Wellington, but subsequently withdrew their notices- Three stewards from Ihe P&kehu joined the New Zealand Union, but re--manned on the? "Manuka The other left the vessel. Seven members of the Sydney Stewards’ Union signed off. Some New Zealand stewards took their places but when ’he Manuka left. Wellington for Sydney she wa* still half a dozen stewards short of th > complement.
