The sports editor of the “ New York Times" declares lie is definitely informed that the Deinpsey-Carpentier match has been cancelled, this being; due to the failure o? Messrs Kearns, Desckamps, Tex Rickard >ancl Brady .to deposit certain sums -as a guarantee of good faith. Mr Cochran, the wellknown theatrical manager and boxing promoter, alone deposited 33,333d01. 'Kearns, fox: Doippsey, and JJeschamps, for Carpentier, were supposed to deposit 50.000d.0l each, and Rickard and Brady .‘13,399d0! each, and the contract stipulated that the deposits should be made before November 20, 1920. It is also understood that the proposed Willard-Dempaey match in Madison Square Garden, New York, on March 17, has been cancelled. The State Boxing Commission recently adopted a rule limiting the maximum admission charge to 3 odd, and the bout, therefore, was no longer profitable. Tex Rickard denies tho statement of tho “ New York Times ” that tho Rerunsey-Car-pentier match is cancelled. He says tho match will take place positively on July 2. cither in Canada or in England, and that every cent the urticles call fer has been posted to banks here. LONBON. January . 19. Carpentier, who is in England, states that the match is not off. He says he paid his forfeit on November 20.
