Mr Albert Illingworth, PostmasterGeneral. in replying to a deputation of the representatives of the newspaper interests of Britain and the whole of the Empire, stated that the Department was doing everything possible to minimise cable and telgraphic delays. He was discussing the duplication of the Pacific cable with tlie Governments concerned, and hoped that shortly a decision would be reached as to
whether the whole cable or only a portion would be duplicated. The Imperial trans-Atlantic cables wero being fitted with an apparatus to speed up transmission, and the Government was also pushing on with the Imperial wireless chain. The T^eafield-Oairo section was already approaching completion, only awaiting the delivery of material, after which lie hoped that other stations in India, at Singapore and Hong Kong, and in Australia would soon be completed. The post office already had established wireless services with several parts of the Continent, including the Scandinavian countries, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Prague and Belgrade.
