LAKE COLERIDGE.

PROGRESS LEAGUED INSPECTION. The Ministerial visit to Lake Coleridge lias been definitely fixed for Saturday, January 29. The following are the arrangements made by the Canterbury Progress League for the visit to the lake on that day by representatives of Canterbury local bodies, and others : various parts of the province will proceed to the power station by* the most direct route from their particular localities, a'nd under no consideration will cars be permitted to go to the **' intake ” first. Cars si Idbe ti arrive at the power station between 11.80 a.m. and 3 2.30 p.m. The distance from Christchurch to the power station is about sixty-five miles, and consequently’ it will take the average car about three hours to complete the journey. On this basis country residents will be able to form an idea of the time it will take them to reach Lake Coleridge from their respective districts. Each local body and public organisation will make its own arrangements in regard to (1) time of departure, (2) route to be taken, and (3) luncheon. On arriving at the power station cars will be “ parked ” in the roadway set aside for tho purpose, drivers being requested to strictly observe the instructions of the marshal appointed for the purpose. Visitors will be permitted to visit the power house in limited numbers at a time. Those arriving early are advised to inspect the power house before luncheon, so as to eliminate overcrowding as much as possible. Boilers containing hot water, together with receptacles containing milk," will be stationed at convenient points close to where the cars will be drawn up. Immediately following lunch, 12.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m., the Minister will be asked to receive a short address by the president of the League on tho claims of Canterbury for more electric power, and the necessity of proceeding at once with the programme of duplication. The Minister will reply. After this short ceremony is over, a start will be made to carry out an inspection of the 11 intake,” a man being stationed at the top of the kill to regulate the traffic and prevent more than a limited -number of cars proceeding to the “intake” at one time. After this, the cars will proceed on their homeward journey. As the visit to the lake on this occasion is not of the usual social or picnic character, but of a serious business nature, it is stiggested that women and children should not be encouraged to attend. Tho Electricity Committee has requested tse Mayor, Town Clerk and Councillor D. G. Sullivan to represent it at the visit to Lake Coleridge.
