ROUGH ON THE EDITOR.
Charles Dudley Warner, the famous American author, was editor of a daily paper at Hartford during the early days of his career, and was doing his best during the American Civil War to arouse the patriotism of his readers. One day a typesetter came in from the composing-room and planted himself before the editor. “Well, Mr Warner.” he said, “I have determined to enlist.” With mingied sensations of pride and responsibility the editor replied that ho was glad to see that the man felt the call of duty. “ Oh. it isn’t that,” answered tho man. “but I’d rather be shot than try to set any more of your copy !”
