FEARFUL MURDER.
FATHER KILLS HIS SON. TWICE ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. £p£R Press Association.! DARGAVILLE, January 17. A fearful murder and attempted suicide occurred a.t Marohemo. near Maungaturoto, yesterday morning, at etigLit o’clock. "William Rawlin ‘Needham, aged, eighteen, was busy separating cream when an altercation took place with his father, Thomas iNoedham, aged sixty-five. The father picked up a broom, knocked his son down and belaboured him with the broom till ho was killed. The body was frightfully knocked about. When the father realised the position, ho cut his own throat with, a knife, but this proving ineffectual, he secured a rope to hang himself, but was too weak to carry the plan into effect. Constable Boag was promptly on the scene, and had Needham, senior, removed to Paparoa Hospital. The wound is not likely to prove fatal.
