THE PRICE OF MILK.
The wlioesale dairymen held a meeting cn Saturday evening and decided to stand firm for la fid per gallon; if tho retailers do not accept the milk at this j'rico the wholesalers will send it to the factory until they can make arrangements lor tho delivery of city supplies themselves. The retailers, it would appear, must either pay up or be u locked out.” The wholesalers keenly resent tho intrusion of the retail milkmen with their ideas about prices. Tho president of the association, Mr J. Parlane, was at somo pains on Saturday evening to show these misguided men that they were really “very small potatoes.” Air Parlane, howeve*, did not attempt to justify tho recent increase to Is Od, or show that new conditions had arisen which were forcing it on the wholesalers. There has l>eon no change during the past few months to necessitate a revision of milk prices in an upward direction. The chairman’s recital of the burden borne by the wholesaler does not elucidate the position, file question is: What has happened to make an increase in the wholesale price necessary? No answer has been supplied, and the retailers are quite justified in their opposition to tho increase.
