AX AUSTRALIAN’S VIEW. By Tc3egraj.il—Frees Association—Copyright. Australian and N'.Z. Cable AEBocia/tio©. NEW YORK, January 15. The “ New York World,” which is conducting a disarmament campaign, secured an exclusive statement from the Hon E. I). Milieu, an Australian Senator who now is in London. Mr Milieu said: —‘‘.lt would be a sorry commentary on the heroic efforts of the nations which fought the war if we emerge from the horrors of the prolonged struggle only again to shackle ourselves to tb'o intolerable burden of huge costly armaments.” A naval holiday or diminution of armaments was an eminently desirable tiring. He continued that high expenditures on a new race for naval supremacy would be deplorable, not only because of the crushing financial burden, but also because it would breed distrust and irritation. How an understanding was to be reached, however, was by no means so easy of solution. Probably the most useful course now would be to create a healthy public sentiment favourable to such understanding. This -ooner or later would lead those in executive authority to lind means for producing the necessary proposals. A SIGNIFICANT VISIT. NEW YORK, January 15.
