“THE DUKE OF KILLIECRANKIE.”

The inimitable Marie Tempest opened her Christchurch season last night in a play admirably suited to her, and wore the most wonderful frocks-—frocks that were almost, beyond description. In the first act Aliss Tempest appeared wearing an exquisite creation of rosc-pinlc moire, which had the effect of a crinoline. Diamond ornaments were worn on the decollete, and festoons of turquoises and pink flowers intertwined with silver tissue were arranged charmingly on the skirt, which was finished off with a wide transparent hem of lino lace. A blue and silver handbag, de-

corated with brilliants, toned in charmingly with the frock. The second gown worn by Aliss Tempest was extremely lovely, and one which might be called a cloth cf gold. The foundation of the frock was of fine silk net, with several transparent overdresses of tulle, long hanging panels and a train completing the beautiful lines of this gown, the point* of the panels being finished off with long pearl tassels. Her third toilette' was a tomato coloured velour costume, mode in Russian fashion, the close fitting collar and tho hem of the long coat being edged wit h heaver, a black lisere hat trimmed with Bird of Paradise plumes accompanying it. Aliss Dorothy Hamilton also wore several charming frocks. Her first, was of 'while satin charmeuse, depending upon the artistic draperies of the panels for effect, and touches of gold tissue here and there. Tn the second act Aliss 'Hamilton wore a flowing tea-gown of flesh-coloured ninon and saxe blue win on, and her third frock was a. onepiece coa . frock of white gabardine, the collar being adorned with black fur. Doris Gilliam, as tho Countess of PangfTourne. wore an effective gown of amber coloured tatin. veiled in black jewelled net and Chantilly lace, the richness being enhanced by the wide belt. of black jet. Amongst the audience were noticed Sir Francis and Ladv Bovs. Sir Joseph Kinsey. Airs AY. A. ATooro (Dunedin). Mr and Airs Boyle. Miss Boyle, Airs
