NURSERYMEN.

An advance draft of the Agenda Paper for the fourteenth annual meeting and Conference of the New Zealand Association of Nurserymen, which will open at Wellington, on January 12, is forwarded by the Dominion Secretary, Mr G. A. Green. A civic reception will he tendered by the Mayor of Wellington, Mr J. P. Luke, at 9.30 a.m., and the conference will be officially opened by the Prime Minister at 10.15 a.m. The president, Mr Robert Nairn, of Christchurch, will preside. The report of the Executive Committee promises to be of mqre than usual interest, there having been a number of special features that have called for attention during the year. Some fourteen subcommittees 'wilt present reports Amongst the most important of these are those of the Diseases, Organising and Emergency Committees which will deal with such questions as the setting up of such National Bud-Selection Association; the necessity of protection from fresh introductions of diseases from overseas, special mention being made of the Fire-Blight problem ; the forward movement in connection with the appointment of the national organiser; the urgent need for a Dominion college of horticulture to care lor the effective training of youths for the higher branches of this profession. No fewer than fifty-six remits from District Councils appear on the order paper, these added to those from the executive bringing the number up to about seventy. Many of these refer to matters which are of public interest, such as those relating to forestry, importation of trees and plants, tree grading regulations, registration of nurseries, registration of forest areas, bud selection, reducing varieties of roses, etc., and protection of raisers of new varieties of trees and plants. Lectures during the conference will be delivered by Mr T. W. Kirk, Captain Ellis, and Messrs T. D. Lennie, W. T. Benefield and V. C- Davies. The conference will extend over January 12, 13, and 14. Delegates will attend from all over the Dominion.
