"SAVE THE CHILDREN" APPEAL.
The executive of the committee* conducting the “ Save the Children” appeal, met yesterday. Mr W. H, hose presiding. Mrs Lavie (president) and Miss Pyne (secretary' of the ladies’ committee) were also present. The secretary (Mr Denys IToare) reported that the Collections and definite prole(v?no Uotv ' aTHCuntecl to approximately mOO, and (hat £7OOO had been sent . Ilon, o t the Department of Interua.l Aftaars. The actual funds now m band were over £IOOO. Ou the motion of the chairman, seconded by Dean Degnanlt, it was dccided t° remit a further £IOOO at once. Inc chairman mentioned that the Indies’ committee had,, by hard work in r h ,o,v. uburbal ' distri ct Sj collected over ..-1000 in a littlo over four weeks. A resolution was carried expressing the committee’s sincere appreciation of the very successful efforts of the ladies’ Committee. The chairman also reported that the Canterbury District Red Clots were, as in other districts, making an allotment to the fund, tt was also reported that the Waipara. County Council was taking up the appeal in that district; that a public meeting w'as to be held, at Lower Ricea.rfon: that tne Lyttelton district had collected in the meantime £oo;and that splendid iespouse had been received from school Children all over Canterbury. It was decided to make an effort, to nose, the fund by collecting sufficient duung the next few weeks, to remit the full amount aimed at, namely, £IO,OOO. in addition to the pavnient of all expenses (estimated at £300), most of which has been incurred in advertising and acknowledging subscriptions in the daily papers. It was decided to ask the Mover and county chairman at Ashburton to assist m making an appeal in ..that district, trom which it was estimated that £IOOO should be available. Several final reports from canvassers in the city were dealt with, and a cordial role of thanks was passed to those who had Fenced on the committee- The final meeting will be held after Carnival Week.
