AN IRREVERENT OBJECTOR.
NOVEL POINT ON DIVORCE QUESTION. The very irreverent point that because Jesus Christ “ was not a married man ” He was therefore not an authority on divorce, was submitted by an assertive individual at last night’s 'meeting of the Council of Churches, but his license to speak was immediately quashed by the chairman on the ground that ho was not a member of the council. Divorce was tho subject under discussion, and the words of. the Saviour in the nineteenth chapter of St Matthew had been quoted, together with their interpretation by Doruer. It was at this stage that the non-member rose with the objection that tho only two authorities quoted were single men. # The Rev J. J. North immediately raised the point that tho speaker had no right to speak as he was not a delegate. The granger retorted that on a previous occasion he had been invited to be present Mr North responded that it would lie unthinkable if anyone could stroll in bff the street and take part in the discussions, for the reports in the papers were taken to be reports of a-discus-sion by delegates. “I can quite believe that you do not want to hear the views of those who are not of-your creed,” said the interloper. “You can’t say that to me,” said Mr North, who was obviously takintr a hard pull on himself. Tho chairman ruled the visitor out of order, but he, was interested enough in tho discussion to remain to the end.
