(Abridged from Press Association.) THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATATIVES, Mr Yeitcb gave notice of his intention to; introduce the Painters Health Protection Bill. Replying to Mr Luke, who asked, tho Prime _ Minister whether he was preE Vt n^on proposals in the and Income Tax Assessment Bill to tax debentures issued by local bodies, ns the proposals of the Government were calculated to interfere with the finances of such bodies, it being scarcely possible to raise money at o,J per cent if income from ■ those debentures were subject ,to the prpposed taxation. Mr Massey said he was scarcely prepared to give a final answer to the question on such short notice, but nothing unfair or unjust to local bodies would be done. We would answer the question later on. Replying to Dr Newman, Mr Massey said that if the Butter Committee had time to do so after it had dealt with the business referred to it by the House, ha would ask it to take into consideration the question of the price of milk sold in the Dominion. There was nothing so far to prevent anv person from rendering assistance to, the workers mentioned so long (M tho assistance w'aa given by him voluntarily, and not under coercion. That the .general increase in pay will be granted to those temporary employees who have severed their connection with , • service since April 1 last. Such employees ,should, however,- make application to the heads of Departments concerned,., as m. many oases their present whereabout are unknown. That ;inqtpnes are •’ already being made into the question: of enabling the Arbitration Court to ,make the coat of living bonuses immediately operative tnroughout the Jole ,or any part of tho Dominion. 1 hat as soon -as the organisation of technical schools in general had reached ' a stage which would wairant the step, it is intended to substitute for tli« capitation principle a more direct and-com-proliemiive method' of payment which will, place .technical schools in a more assured financial position. That it is not considered necessary to introduce legislation to prevent or make more difficult the sending of money from New Zealand to the proposed ' Australian btate lotteries, as tue present law is sufficient to meet tho pbsition.
