FIGHT THE FAMINE FUND

MEETING OF WOMEN SYMPATHISERS.

A meeting of women, in connection with the Fight the Famine Fund” was held in the Y.M.C.A. yesterday, Mr W. H. Eose presiding over an attendance of twenty-two. The chairman outlined the steps already taken to raise funds, stating that a canvass of the city had been begun that day v and already over £2OOO was in hand. Business men were undertaking the canvass of the city proper, and it was proposed to ask the ladies to canvass the outlying parts and the suburbs. Whatever sum was raised would he remitted to the High Commissioner, .who was in direct touch .with the British Mission which was administering the relief funds. The British Empire had undertaken to provide relief for all the countries in Central Europe except Germany, which, for political reasons, it had been deemed advisable to leave to the United States. Circular appeals were being sent out to tho citizens, to .all the Schools, and also tp the country districts. The pros-' poets were satisfactory, and there was a very good chance, of Canterbury raising the" sum which the committee had in view, namely, £IO.OOO. The Fund had the sympathy of the people of Flew Zealand from Auckland to the Blulf.
