MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

TO-DAY’S CASES. CHRISTCHURCH Mr S. E. M’Carthy, S.M., presided at tq-day’s sitting of the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court. DRUNKENNESS. Thomas Gilboy, a second offender, pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and was fined £l. in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. A, first offender, whose youthfulness was commented on by tho Magistrate, pleaded guilty to drunkenness, and was fined 6s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. DISORDERLY CONDUCT. Richard Blackburn and Patrick William O’Malley, both young men, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in Manchester Street, last evening, and were each fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment. MAINTENANCE, ETC. John 11. Barkle was ordered to pay ~ s fid weekly towards the maintenance of an inmate of a home. Nimo Ritchie was adjudged the putative father of an illegitimate child, and was ordered to pay 12s fid weekly towards its 1 maintenance. Lilian Goggin (Mr Thomas) was granted a separation and maintenance order against Charles Goggin, who was ordered to pay 30s weekly. .Charles M. Willcox was sentenced to bis months’ 'imprisonment for the disobedience of a. maintenance order, no warrant to be issued until applied for. Albert Brown was sentenced to twenty-one days’ imprisonment For a Binnlar offence, no warrant to be issued until applied for! Richard Edward Grose was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on a like charge, no warrant to b e issued until applied for. t A COUPLE ACCUSED. Peter Reynolds was charged with keeping a house of ill-fame at 22, Caversiiam Street, and Tilly Cotter was charged with fassisting. Both pleaded not guilty, tho woman also orotestinothat her real name v/as Mrs Hunt. ° Constable Packer and others gave evidence for the prosecution. . The Court adjourned for the luncheon interval, and resumed the sitting at 2.00 p.m. The female defendant made no appearance, and it was decided to adjourn the proceedings, a warrant meanwhile being issued for her arrest. LYTTELTON. (Before Mr F. G. Norton, J.P.) David Thomas, a fireman off the Lciirira, appeared on a charge of stealing a bicycle yesterday at Lyttelton, valued ?» ITJ, tho property of a Maori named Fqhu Hautana. The police asked that the accused be remanded to appear before tho magistrate to-morrow at Lyttelton. The remand was granted . Mr H. G. Shakes, district manager ot tho 1 übhc i rust Office, Sydenham, has been appointed manager of the Feuding branch, and leaves Christchurch on the 23rd iust. to take up hia now duties.
