BIG FIRE AT OAMARU.
$ [Pus Press Association.] OAMARU, September 4. A destructive fire occurred this morning in the large building of the North Otago Fanners’ Co-operativo Association. The fire was discovered shortly after throe o’clock. The brigade responded promptly to tho alarm, hot the fire had obtained a strong hold on tho inflammable goods with which the building was stocked. With a splendid pressure of water for some hours the brigade was occupied in subduing the flames. Tho scene of the outbreak was in the recent addition to the main building, and included a large showroom and somo other departments of general business. Tho fire was conlined to that part which comprised little more than a third of tho main structure. Tho fireproof doors between the two parts greatly aided the efforts of the brigade. The loss cannot be ascertained yet, but tho insurance over tho building and stock was stated at about £49,000.
