SHIPPING NOTES. Tho auxiliary schooner Lily was an arrival in Lyttelton yesterday morning. It is hoped to dispatch her for Wellington, again this evening. The John should complete her discharge of timber to-day, and after loading a quantity of general cargo will sail this evening for Dunedin, where she will finish discharging the balance of her timber from Nydia Bay and load for Wanganui, calling at Oamatu and Timaru on the way north. The Koromiko will probably sail for Auckland to-day with a full load ot produce. The Kim was to have left Westport on Thursday night, but has been held up owing to a shortage of firemen, and is now expected to leave to-night for Lyttelton. Tho Flora is expected to leave Wellington to-night for Timaru. The vessel is due bore on Tuesday to load for Nelson and Now Plymouth. The steamer Te Anau is to leave Napier to-night for Lyttelton. Alter discharging cargo hero, she will replenish her bunkers and then proceed to Port Chalmers to dock for cleaning and painting. The 8.1. Company’s steamer Canara left Calcutta on August, 29 for New Zealand ports, via Rangoon, Penang, Singapore, Samarang and Newcastle or Brisbane. The vessel is clue at Auckland early next week. The Cosmos, which has just been purchased by the Union Company, is due at Melbourne next month from the West of England. Sydney and Newcastle will also be visited by the vessel, tho name of which is to bo changed to Karaka. The Maori will not leave Wellington until 8.15 in order to enable a football team coming south to catch to-night’s ferry. Captain T. Y. Hill has transferred from tbs Kurow to tho Waimarino. Captain Molyneux ia now in charge of the Kurow.' On December 31 last there were on tho register of tho Dominion 174 sailing vessels, of 22,216 tons register and 332 steamers, of 69,943 lons register. At the end of the previous year there wore 178 sailing vessels, of 23.1.58 tons, and 379 steamers, of 65,388 tons. Tho number of seamen and boys employed on board was 3292, as compared with 3395 at the end of 1918. Tho Kara should arrive here to-day. The C. and I), liner Port Denison, which sailed from Wellington on Thursday for London, via Panama, took the following cargo from New Zealandß2,l29 carcases of mutton, 611,899 carcases of lamb, 422 crates frozen sundries, 225 bags frozen sundries, 203 boxes butter, 15 245 crates of cheese, 8490 hales of wool for Hull, and 232 bales for London, 33 bales of leather, 100 bales of hops, 181 bales of hemp. 4 bales of clippings, 412 sacks clippings, 264 bales of tow, 1790 sacks of peas, 82 sacks of seeds, 1000 sacks of casein, 1570 casks ot tallow, 874 casks of peremier jus, 932 casks of pelts, '5 casks of casings, 4 casks of oil, 141 cases of honey, .1231 eases of preserved meat 8622 packages of Glaxo, and 190 packages of sundries. Tho O. and D. Line advise that the Port Alma is to leave Sydney on September 4 for New Zealand ports to load for London. Tho vessel ia expected to get away from the Dominion about tho end of September. Tho New Zealand portion of the cargo taken by the Port Hacking for London at AVellington on Wednesday was as follows; 58,707 carcases of mutton, 12,238 carcases of Jamb, 3399 quarters of beef, 166 pieces of mutton, 732 bags of frozen sundries, 8403 crates of cheese, 200 bales ot tow, 242 bales of wool, 719 bales of hemp, 2921 seeks of casein, 13 packages sundries. The Abadesa is due at Wanganui to-day from ‘Sydney. The vessel is loading under tho agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company, and after loading at AVanganui she will visit ellington. Sho ia only loading meat for London at these two ports. The Iluahino was expected to leave Wellington for London this morning. The Waimana returned to Lyttelton this morning from Dunedin to continue disohargmg a large -consignment of United Kingdom cargo. ° The Matatua is duo hero to-morrow with West of England cargo to discharge. The vessel will afterwards load for Boston and New York at Pott Chalmers, Bluff and Ti maru, thence returning to AVellington in time to leave tor Auckland on September 25, She is timed to leave Auckland for tho United States on October 5.
