A pleasing osremony took place at tho Chief Post Offioo yesterday when tho staff of the Chief Post Office and permanent postmasters and staff of the offices in the Canterbury district presented Mr J. G. Rule, on tho eve of his retirement, after forty-four years’ service, on superannuation, with two Morris chairs; Mr B. I>. Kelly, tho new chief postmaster, made the presentation, and Messrs Collins, Finnegan, Joll, M’Manaway and Mortimer, respective heads of branches, also spoke in eulogistic terras of Dir Rule. In reply Mr Rule said that ho felt the wrench leaving the service. He spoke interestingly about the early days in Christchurch, and concluded by wishing all good fuck and! rapid promotion.
