MEMBERS’ HONORARIA.
TO THE BDITOU. Sir,—Thanks to tho active energies of tho Progress Teague, the North Canterbury members of Parliament have been stirred up to take some degree of interest in the welfare of tho province, and there appears to bo a reasonable prospect that tho indignity which wo have suffered through the comparative indolence of members will bo wiped out. In this respect wo arc deeply indebted to the operations of tho league, from your columns, and from private information, i gather that there is a considerable amount.of time spent in recreation by members at Wellington, and that there is a shocking abstention from work on the port of some legislators. It is a, fairly arguable question, as to whetheiv members of Parliament are not jfeid as much as they aro worth, and there aro many who subscribe to the opinion that tho maximum increase scliould not exceed £4oo. —t am, etc,, ALPHA.
