Air Myers, who came over to consult a. specialist, hopes, when his health improves, to spend some time in the House of Commons, studying political and economical questions (says a Loudon correspondent). The first of a. series of lectures dealing with the scientific aspect of the liquor question was held in the AVomen’s Christian Temperance Union’s rooms on Tuesday. The lecture was under the auspices of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union and ths AA T omen‘s Christian Temperance Union, A very interesting address was delivered by Dr A. B. O’Brien, who spoke for two hours, and. demonstrated in a, very simple manner the physiological effects of alcohol on the human body. There was an attendance of about seventy-five persons. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks were accorded to Dr O’Brien for his interesting and instructive address. Last evening the Papanui Tennis Club held its annual dance.
