CONFERENCE OF LOCAL BODIES
Aestcrday- afternoon- a conference of chairmen of North Canterbury local bodies and members of tho IVaimakuriri Harbour Board was Held at Kaiapoi. Those present were Messrs R. Evans (M aipara County Council), in the choir, 1 1 . Horvell (Raugiora County Council 1, J. S. Hiatt (Ashley County Council!, M Bethell (Amur! County Council), T. Stevenson (Cheviot County Council), C. I. Jennings (.Mayor of Rangiova), J. H. Blackwell (Mavor of Kaiapoi), A. J. Rich (Gyre County. Council), D. Hawke (Oxford Couutv Council), J. R. Wilkinson (clerk Ashley County), W. T. Lindsay (clerk Waipara County). : The AVaimakariri Harbour Board was represented by Messrs L. B. Evans (acting-chairman), R. Dunn* I. R. Leithcad, K. M’ln tosh, J. M right and W. H. Stark. A discussion ou the amount which Parliament should be asked to authorise the hoard to -raise for can-ring out the proposed improvements look place. The chairman moved and Mr Hiatt seconded- 11 That the amount to bo authorised by the Bill be increased from £-30,000 to £70,000.” An amendment, moved bv Air Hawke and seconded by Air Horrell, “That the amount lie increased from £30,000 to £100,000,” ivas lost on a, show of hands, and the motion was carried unanimously, it being generally considered by those present that £75,000 would be sufficient to assure success. The chairman moved and Air Bethell seconded, conditional on the Bill being passed, “ That ten representatives of local bodies, via., Cheviot. Amuri, AVaipara'. Ashley. Oxford. Kowai, Eyre, Raugiora Counties, Rangiora and Kaiapoi Boroughs., aud one Government nominee, constitute the board. Tho motion was carried.
