THE GUILTLESS MOSQUITO.

Malaria has a typical seasonal occurrence, with little or no appearance during the winter months. Whether the germ of this disease passes the winter in the bodies of human beings or of mosquitoes, or both, has been the subject of much discussion. Extensive investigations carried out in Mississippi led to tho conclusion that only the female insects hibernate. More than ItOOt) insects were dissected and examined, and were found not to harbour malarial parasites; whereas out of 118-4 human beings examined 400 were found to be carriers of these germs. Hence the opinion of most previous students of the subject was confirmed, viz., that man and not the mosquito is responsible for perpetuating malaria from season to season.
