RAILWAY OFFICERS' DISPUTE.

REPORT OF COMMITTEE. BONUSES AND IMPROVED CONDITIONS. [Per Press Associationt] WELLINGTON, June 26. The Conciliation Committee appointed to consider the matters in dispute between the Railway Officers and the Department concluded its sittings yesterday, ioid recommends the following; That the bonus now being paid to members of the first Division be cancelled as on and after April I. 1920, and that a bonus at the rate of £2O per annum be granted to each member of Grade 8 (cadets). That a bonus bo granted at the rate of £SO per annum for Grades 2 to 7 inclusive Cl, and to the captains, mates and engineers of the Lake Wakatipu service as on and after April 1, ] 920. That the bonus recommended for Grades 2 lo 7 be taken into consideration in respect to the salaries of members of Grade 1. Lodging allowances for sub-grades 1, 2 and 3 to bo £4O, £3O and £2O respectively. Married members’ minimum pay to be £lB7 10s per annum. Casual clerks to be eligible for advances to the minimum rate of pay provided for Grade 7. Hours of duty to bo worked by officers at centres to bo specified later, and fixed at thirty-eight per week. Hours at other places to go forty-eight per week, with time, off for work in excess of that period; seven hours lo constitute an ‘‘all night" shift. Special provision is recommended for governing Sunday work, and the scale »f Sunday pay ranges from 4s per hour for officers in receipt of over £270 per annum, to 2 S 3d to those getting no more than £IGo. Ibe bonus is to be considered in assessing the rates of pay. Annual leave is to bo brought into uniformity with the Public Service provisions. and the limitation of forty-two days’ accumulation is to be cancelled. The leave rota is to be cancelled for officers. Other recommendations are made for increased travelling advances, and for the reduction of the timo necessary for a member to serve in any grade to qualify for the maximum superannuation retiring allowance in respect to such grade. Other recommendations of minor importance are also made.
