BURNED IN A WHARE
Mr James Cow. District Coroner \ held an inquest at the Ashburton Hospital yesterday regarding the death of Patrick Casey, whose remains were found at Tinwald the previous morning amongst the debris of a whare which • hud been totally destroyed by fire dur ing Tuesday night. F,W evidence given by D Gilmour. F. B. Robinson and Senior Sergeant Ryan, it appeared that the deceased, who was eighty yearof ago, and who had lately become very feeble, lived by himself in a whare on Graham s Load, and was known to be in the occasional habit of reading after be bad retired to his bunk at night. Ho was last seen alive in his whare on Monday morning. Early on Wednesday morning it was discovered that the where had been totally destroyed by fire, and on a search being made some charred remains were found in the ? s ¥ s ; f . Tr , appeared that the deceased had left, lus bunk when the fire ocanQ attempted to escape from the whare. The Coroner, in returning a vercict that deceased had met his death through being burnt, said that there was no doubt that the remains were those of Patrick Casey, but there was no evidence to show how the fi ro had occurred. He wished to add his sincere regret at the occurrence as Casey had been a. well and favourably known resident in the Tinwald district for many years, was much respected, and find left no enemies whatever be hind him.
SUDDEN DEATH. A , married man named Charles Hrooker, died suddenly this morning at his residence, 89. Holly Road, 0 St Albans. Ho was can-mg a bundle of wood when he collapsed. Mr Booker, who was fifty six years of age, had been employed as a telegraphist in Christchurch for the past thirty years. An inquest will be held at the Courthouse at 10.30 to-morrow morning.
